As a new artist, concerts are daunting; but it doesn’t have to be. For today’s Tuesday Tips, brought to you by DK Music Business Acadamy’s Damian Keyes, these twelve tips are a great way to hit the ground running when the curtains roll up and the light shines on you. Read up on these easy tips to make sure that every concert you book, whether with FanFlex or not, it is an experience everyone can enjoy!
1. Look The Part
Sure, you’re an artist and you’re certainly performing like one; but the presentation is the icing on the cake, and there’s no better way to stand out than by dressing how you want! Identify with your music and craft an attire that suits the image you want to be.
2. Use All Of The Stage Space
Don’t just stand there and sing the entire time. Be active, jump around, move around, and strut your stuff in your attire! Being dynamic is a great way to improve the presentation of your concert.
If you just so happen to have a wireless microphone, getting into the crowd is a fantastic way to earn bonus points!
3. Keep Spaces In-Between Songs Interesting
Unnecessary silence is a hype-killer, and nobody likes when things go silent at a concert. Keep your audience engaged during transitions, which you can do in a variety of different ways.
Maybe you’d like to promote another concert or push some merch. Maybe someone deserves a shoutout for tonight’s show? You could even tell the audience something really important.
Just remember: when you’re on stage, you’re always performing. Keep your speech and your image interesting.
4. Practice Like You’re Actually Gonna Preform
You need to take your band rehearsals seriously. Play, sing and perform with that same energy an actual performance requires. From the garage to the dressing room, there’s never a bad time to run through a set one last time.
5. Interact With The Crowd
Concerts are great opportunities to connect with fans, and there’s no better way to connect with starstruck attendees than by acknowledging them. Look at them in the eyes, make dedicated moments in the set where you can talk to them, and make their concertgoing experience unforgettable.
Maybe you can even get them to sing along to a few of your songs. The energy that brings to a concert is absolutely electric.
6. Film Your Performances And Improve Accordingly
You might think you performed well on stage, but what does it look like to an audience member? Maybe you aren’t moving around as much as you thought, or maybe you weren’t giving one side enough attention. Find those boring moments and stamp them out. Most importantly, find what the audience loved and capitalize on it.
Ask a crew member or your manager to record from the crowd, giving you the perfect audience perspective.
7. Watch Performances from your Favourite Bands
Get inspired by your idols, there’s a reason they’re as great as they are! Aim to recreate what made you love them in the first place and give it to the audience.
8. Note Your Body Language
Charisma is everything, and the audience loves seeing a confident and ecstatic performer on stage. Be that attention magnet you envision yourself to be. Be open with your gestures, and make sure that you’re absolutely stunning on stage.
9. Have Fun!
Don’t try too hard with the tips in this list. After all, performing a live set should be fun, so just let loose and be yourself!
10. Visualize To Manifest Good Stage Presence
Imagine your perfect concert on stage. Daydream about how awesome you’re going to look while you’re up there, and just envision the absolute power you and your crew are going to command with your presence. Now that you have those images in your head, make it real.
This is a technique frequently used in high-energy industries, like athletes in the sports scene. It helps calm those anxious nerves and get in the zone.
11. Interact With Your Band Members
Connecting with the audience is important, yes; but don’t forget about the people alongside you. In addition to the atmosphere the concert has to have, the on-stage atmosphere is just as important.
It helps build a good performance while giving the audience hype.
12. Build Your On Stage Stamina
Performing is tiring, and that’s exactly why staying fit is important when it comes to on-stage presence. The energy you begin with has to either remain or grow come the concert’s end, and burnout is a quick way to losing that hype you’ve worked hard for.
Above all, your friends here at FanFlex are happy to give you pointers on upcoming concerts and how to book more shows.
