5 TIPS TO AVOID MISTAKES WHILE PERFORMING LIVE

26 Sep 5 TIPS TO AVOID MISTAKES WHILE PERFORMING LIVE

To have the best live experience as an artist it is always best to relax and not let fear take the best of your performance. As a musical live performer, your worst nightmare is to make any kind of mistake from losing your voice to the music stopping. Your audience’s reaction and feedback will leave you almost haunted by a mistake. It could be a scary scenario in your head but regardless remember to:

1.Keep Your Sound In Check

Sound is important as described in the article, it is one of the steps to performing live. To “sound check” means to make sure the sound does not affect the quality of the voice or instrumentation of the artist/band before the show starts. Also having a good ear/monitor can save you any mistakes that can make you not sound at your current best state.

2. Forget About The Mishaps

Being open to any kind of mistake can help you not only perform better but also become less nervous. A simple mistake such as “the band hitting the wrong note” can be obvious to you but to the average ear, it is not noticeable.

3. Don’t Stop The Music

By not stopping the performance/music you can avoid any kind of confusion that your audience may have. The awkward pause for the band to recover may be long and silent but as a performer, you should know it is okay. Learn to be unique by improvising and giving a memorable performance.

4. Don’t Skip Rehearsals

Learning to be patient and practice beforehand can take some time out of your day but it does not mean it needs to be skipped. Here are some tips to practice:

  1. Learn new riffs
  2. Strengthen your memory
  3. Record yourself and analyze
  4. Create benchmarks for yourself

5. Always Aim To Give The Best Performance

Giving your absolute BEST performance at every show is almost impossible. But what is impossible is giving the same performance with the same amount of energy. As said in the previous tip, practicing beforehand and analyzing performance can help you improve and elevate the next performance experience for fans and yourself.

Remember that you are not at fault nor the only one to many/who has had an accident. An example such as the most recent musical R&B artist “The Weeknd ” who had a show at the Los Angeles Sofi Stadium where he lost his voice after four songs. The Weeknd handled the situation by stopping the show and personally apologizing by saying “I don’t want to stop the show, but I can’t give you the concert that I want to give you right now.” In the situation of a big Grammy winner artist who started to lose his voice during the first song, it is a tough situation for a concert with over 60,000 fans waiting for their anticipated annual concert. This example shows that even huge artists like The Weeknd can have amazing performances but still have a mishap along the way. This situation is crucial to the artists’ team but at the end of the day as a performer, you have to take the situation and do what is best for yourself and the audience.
