Music is such an important part of the world we live in today. Everyone loves sharing about new artists that they are listening to and introducing new music to the community around them. But breaking into the music industry, becoming an artist, and promoting your music can be a difficult process. Below are some tips and ways that can help independent artists promote their music.

  1. Have a streaming platform

The best way to promote your music is to first choose a distribution service provider, and then you can release it on streaming platforms, or services, such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube for Artists. These platforms have many benefits and features that are for artists to upload music and gives artists feedback on how their music is being streamed. Also on each platform, you can create an artist profile that you can claim and fill out to give fans more details about who you are as an artist and your music.

2. Create ways to engage

Whether through social media, a website, or a mailing list, find different, exciting, and fun ways to engage your fans. On your website and social media accounts, you should have a bio about who you are as an artist, ways to stream your music, and any exciting news that is coming up, like an album release, tour, or local performance. Between your website and social media platforms, there should be links that connect both. A mailing list is a fun idea to help engage with your fans and for them to see and have a personal experience with you. Also, through this, fans become the first people to receive information about a single, album, tour, or concert tickets.

3. Music press releases, blogs, and playlists

Find ways to get your music and yourself featured in music publications; Whether through a large or small magazine, a blog, or a popular playlist, this increases your audience and listeners. You might not have the budget to hire a public relations executive to help write or create those connections, but the best thing is to start yourself. Whether that’s researching how to write a press release or connecting with bloggers and journalists.

4. Know your audience and build a fanbase

Another great way to promote your music is to know your audience and build a fanbase. To know your audience, you must know what kind of music you’re making and that you love the sound. A great platform for artists to promote music is TikTok, by creating engaging videos with your songs.  The best way to build a fanbase is to connect with fans through social media. Make sure that if they tag, tweet, comment, or message you, you are responsive. Fans love when artists engage with them at shows they attend.

5. Play Live

By playing live you can test out your music on new audiences and promote it at the same time. When playing live you want to make sure that you are playing at a venue that can cater to the type of music you have created. If you play that venue multiple times you can bring in and create a following. Through playing live you can connect with those fans and engage face-to-face with them.

It is a process to promote yourself as an artist and to break into the industry, especially as an independent artist. Make sure you have a strong team and support system around you. Fanflex is a platform that can make the connection between artists and venues so that artists can promote their music through live shows and increase engagement with their fans.
