Best Apps: TIDAL, FanFlex, Office Lens, EverythingMe
Every Monday in Digital Playground, we give kudos to the game-changing apps that we can’t live without. This week, test the waters of Jay-Z’s new app, flex your music muscle, and get everything in order.
TIDAL
Function: Jay-Z’s new, paid streaming music service aims to compensate artists with better royalties and give users access to exclusive content.
Best Feature: This weekend alone, Beyoncé debuted her ode-to-Jay “Die with You”; Rihanna, “American Oxygen”; and Madonna, a macabre teaser video.
Why We Love It: We’re skeptical of handing over our wallets, but the free trial is a great way test the waters.
Available: iTunes, Google Play
Price: 30-day free trial, then $9.99-$19.99/month
Office Lens
Function: A mobile scanning tool that works with your smartphone camera.
Best Feature: The app quickly scans and frames receipts and other one-page documents, then exports the file to email, Word, PowerPoint, or other destinations.
Why We Love It: Microsoft still has the corner in office tools.
Available: iTunes, Windows
Price: Free
FanFlex
Function: Bands create crowd funding campaigns to play local venues and you flex your fan muscle to get them there.
Best Feature: You can hold a spot or a premium package and will only be charged if enough fans are in to confirm the show.
Why We Love It: Follow the bands you love to be notified when they’ll be in town — get access to limited edition band merch and meet-and-greets.
Available: iTunes
Price: Free to download. Ticket prices vary.
EverythingMe
Function: The intuitive launcher app organizes your smartphone home screen by placing apps into coordinating folders.
Best Feature: The prediction bar displays useful-to-you apps depending on changing factors (time of day, location).
Why We Love It: We want our smartphones to get organized, we just aren’t organized enough to do it ourselves.
Available: Google Play
Price: Free
