INTERVIEW WITH IZYE

06 Dec INTERVIEW WITH IZYE

Interviewed by: Anna Melendres

Izye is a 21-year-old artist from the San Francisco Bay Area and creates a fusion of r&b, pop, hip-hop, and trap music.

Coming from a musical theater background, Izye has been performing her whole life. In high school she loved listening to Broadway soundtracks, but it wasn’t until this year that she wanted to create her own music.

Izye performs frequently at venues across Los Angeles. Self-taught in guitar and piano, Izye takes an active role in the production and final mixing of her own work. She works with a team of creatives and has dancers and choreographers who help her bring her artistic visions to life.

“My team and I work really well together and when it came to rehearsals and the shoot day, I surprised myself with how well I was doing with picking up the choreography. My choreographer made me feel the most confident and the baddest version of myself” – Izye, for FanFlex.

She credits pop-powerhouses Ariana Grande and Jojo as creative and vocal muses, along with one of her biggest inspirations: Kehlani.  The song “Water” off her 2020 album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, inspired Izye to create her latest music video, “Drip”.

On why she chose to pursue a career in music, Izye says: “Music is what I love to do. It’s really as simple as that. I’ve always loved to sing and perform in any shape and capacity and it’s what I’ve been put on this Earth to do” – Izye, for FanFlex.

Growing up, her dad played a lot of 70s soul music so she was surrounded by music at such a young age. As she grew older, the album Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande was hugely influential in its Pop and R&B feel.

Izye performed at her first FanFlex show at Hotel Ziggy in October of 2022. She enjoyed that show because of how unique it was compared to others she did in the past.

“It was honestly really cool to be performing in a hotel lobby. It was nice to bring back my roots of just my singing and not just my production”– Izye, for FanFlex.
