FanFlex is always here for all musicians who are trying to perform live, whether it may be their first time since the pandemic or just their first time in general. For those artists who are performing live, here are some tips that can help you feel more confident when going on stage, courtesy of DIY Musician.
1. Rehearse! Rehearse! Rehearse!
When performing live, it is about practicing until you feel satisfied with your sound and the quality of it. Through the pandemic, by practicing as much as possible, it is easier to be more content with performing live, because you feel prepared with your skills.
2. Test Your Gear
Make sure to check your gear thoroughly before performing, especially if your gear has not been touched or has been sitting there for a while. Being prepared and knowing that your equipment is ready to go when you are is always ideal.
3. Shake off the Rust with a Low-Risk Performance
To alleviate any jitters its ok to start with small performances in order to test the waters. Being able to go back to performing live after not doing so for a while can cause nervousness or jitters so it's always a good idea to start small until you gain more confidence. Open mics are always an option and it can be the warm up you need.
4. Value Your Physical Health
Being in shape and feeling your best is always important. Whether you are a vocalist and need to maintain your vocal chords in shape or when playing instruments, it is important to not lose energy and perform your best.
5. Be Kind to Yourself
If your first performance doesn't feel great, or you're performing and the show didn't go as you hoped, make sure to not beat yourself up too much and just work on improving any areas where you might struggle with or want to improve on. Especially, for people that haven't played in a while and want to start, taking everything easy and not being too critical is always the way to go.
6. Prepare for Sparse Gigs, But Stay Ready
Some Venues have closed or some have just opened, Just be ready to adjust to any new changes this pandemic has brought to us all and be ready for any adjustments you may have to make, whether it be playing more shows, or people adjusting to live performances, just go with the flow.
It is always a good idea to be ready for whatever life throws at you. As long as you keep working on your craft and feel confident when performing on stage, then it's all that matters.
